2013 LEMBERGER SELECT LATE HARVEST 6 PACK - RED DESSERT WINE

The 2013 Lemberger Select Late Harvest is a truly unique wine.  A one-of-a-kind gem only produced once from Pillitteri due to a spectacularly warm season.  The 2013 season was uniquely suited to allow this particular grape to hang on the vine well past the fall harvest time.  Lemberger typically ripens later in the year and a warm October allowed for more complex flavours to develop as the vines did not go dormant until early November.  Then while the grapes hung on the vines an early cold snap in December allowed the still hanging grapes to freeze and harvest to begin earlier than usual, ensuring the flavours in the grape skins did not break down.  

In 2015 Pillitteri removed all remaining plantings of the Lemberger varietal from our vineyards to make room for more traditional Niagara varietals like Merlot and Cabernet Franc.  This 2013 is the last remaining wine in our catalogue from this truly unique grape varietal. We are offering you one last chance to taste this rare wine.

 Flavours of blackberry, red currant, cherry, strawberries and other berries.  Some jammy character with cooked fruit on the mid palate.  The sweetness is not overwhelming  but is present along with some acidity.  This is an aged dessert wine so typical aged characters of toffee and caramel are also present.

This wine would pair extremely well with strong firm cheeses and dark chocolate.
