2019 Racina Pinot Noir Icewine 200ml
Easily one of the most unique and innovative Icewines that Pillitteri has ever produced, our 2019 Racina Pinot Noir Icewine grabs your attention the moment it hits the glass. It pours a very distinct pale orange colour that is rarely seen in Icewines. Similarly, the nose is quite distinctive as well, with a complex mixture of red cherry, apricot, blood orange, pomegranate, marmalade, honeysuckle, walnut, and an underlying earthiness that gives it excellent varietal typicity. The palate repeats the same complex descriptors seen on the nose but with even more intensity and added length on the finish. It also offers the perfect balance of luscious sweetness and fresh acidity, courtesy of Pinot Noir’s naturally higher acidity. Given the fragile nature of this grape variety, it is not something we can produce very often, so you definitely won’t want to miss your chance to try this truly exceptional Icewine.
Although 2019 was a rainy and cool year reduced crop yields for whites enabled some very good quality fruit. Grapes like Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer fared well. Rains lessened later in the season. It was a season where all varieties stayed on the vine longer than usual to balance PH, Acidity, and Brix. In the fall there was an unusual early frost that hit the later maturing grapes increasing sugar levels. Good or fair would be an accurate assessment with some interesting characters for the fruit.
