2012 EXCLAMATION GEWURZTRAMINER OAK AGED ICEWINE
The 2012 vintage was of historical proportions. An early spring had buds bursting about 4 weeks earlier than normal, and a steady warm summer period with moderate rain allowed for plenty of time to ripen grapes. Relatively dry conditions continued through the fall keeping the vineyards clean and our grapes for Icewine healthy.
Gewurztraminer has a long history of making delicious, balanced, and age-worthy sweet wines in both France and Germany. Yet in Niagara, since it is more winter sensitive than most other grape varieties, it is seldom made into our signature dessert wine, Icewine. That makes this aged version of our 2012 Gewurztraminer Icewine one of the rarest and most special wines we have ever produced. You can tell this wine will be something special when you first see its beautiful golden colour and higher viscosity in the glass. It presents intense aromas of dried apricot, peach preserve, orange blossom, and honeysuckle, that are layered with complexities of fig, walnut, and cinnamon, stemming from its lengthy aging in our cellars. The palate is lusciously sweet, as to be expected from an Icewine, but the delivery is very well balanced thanks to the perfect amount of natural acidity, which carries this very flavourful Icewine over a long finish.
