2023 Sundance Red - just 110 Calories per 5oz glass
Thanks to a mild 2022-23 winter, yields in 2023 were high and spring was warmer than usual, with some of the warmest weather of the year in May and early June. The summer that followed was characterized by an abundance of rain that led to a lack of heat and sun, thus slowing fruit development and increasing disease pressure. Luckily once September arrived, temperatures increased and the rains stopped, which ultimately saved the quality of the vintage. Although disease pressure had been mitigated, lack of ripeness from the summer rains still forced a later than usual harvest date for most varieties.
The 2023 Sundance red is an easy drinking wine made in a soft, fruit forward style. It’s made from Baco Noir, a variety known for its deep colour and very ripe, fruity characteristics. Living up to its reputation, the nose is loaded with black plum, blueberry, and black pepper, along with subtle tobacco, leather, and charred wood aromas. The palate is also classic for this variety, offering a more medium bodied experience than its color might suggest. It finishes exceptionally smooth, with very soft tannins and a pleasant touch of residual sugar.
