Racina Vigna - VQA, 750 mL
2022 is a vintage that will be remembered for its high quality but also for its scarcity as yields were down around 50% from average. This is due to significant vine damage that took place during the fall and early winter of 2021, which was wet and saw a few sudden cold snaps. Although budbreak was a little later than usual, the summer was hot and dry, with well-timed rainfall that didn’t interfere with harvest. This heat continued into the fall, leading to large windows of opportunity for harvest and great ripeness across most varieties.
The 2022 Racina Vigna draws inspiration from the traditional field blends of Europe's historic wine regions, where vineyards were often harvested and fermented together as a reflection of place rather than varietal composition. Produced from neighbouring vineyard blocks that were harvested and co-fermented as a single lot, Vigna embraces a vineyard-first approach to winemaking. The wine offers a vibrant ruby colour and expressive aromas of red plum, black cherry, and ripe raspberry, layered with notes of cocoa, dried thyme, warm baking spice, and vanilla from barrel aging. Medium to full bodied, the palate is generous and fruit driven, supported by smooth tannins and fresh cool-climate acidity that carry the wine through a long, balanced finish.
